In this section, I’ll be providing an overview of the important topics we cover in Economics Squared.  I’ll also be using this page as almost a personal blog.  Once in a while, you may see some articles pop up underneath the links on perhaps my views on economics or education.

On the bottom of the page, there will be some useful links to math websites which I feel do a fantastic job of explaining game theory and mathematics.  My goal in writing the articles in Economics Squared is to spark an interest in these applied mathematics.  If any of the topics interest you, please feel free to learn more by clicking on these links!

  1. Game Theory: An Introduction

  2. Utility and Game Matrices

  3. Normal Form Games

  4. Prisoner’s Dilemma: Part 1

  5. A Mathematical Approach to Success (Secretary’s Problem)

  6. Introduction to Markov Chains Part 1

Some Links:

–  http://oyc.yale.edu/economics/game-theory/ — Yale University provides a great open course on game theory.  Here, you’ll find online videos of lectures, lecture notes, and course materials.

–  http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/game-theory/#Bas — Detailed article on game theory and philosophy.  A tough but interesting read!

–  http://www.khanacademy.org/ — KhanAcademy is the best educational website out there.  It provides free videos on mathematics, science, history, and just about everything else (except game theory, sorry folks!).  Some of their sections worth looking at: Finance (huge section), Probability, Statistics, Valuation and Investing.  Also, Khan Academy is a great tool for those struggling in a particular class.  The instructor explains everything slowly and thoroughly.

Some Useful Books:

–  Game Theory and Strategy by Philip D. Straffin — The first game theory book I’ve ever read.  It gives a nice introduction to the basic topics in game theory and includes some clever applications.

–  The Compleat Strategyst by J. D. Williams (yes it’s spelled correctly!) — An old classic.  It focuses mostly on zero-sum games, and the author has a very entertaining writing style.
