Definition: A person who is optimistic that all or part of the market is headed higher. It also refers to the market itself that is trending higher (ie: a bull market).

Example: Ben follows financial and economic events daily. He sees that the news on employment, manufacturing, and housing is gradually turning positive. Each article he reads makes him feel more bullish, giving him confidence to invest more of his money into stocks.

Investeach explains: A bull attacks by thrusting its horns upward, earning it the name for investing optimists. A bull makes money by buying stocks and holding them as their values go up. A more advanced investor can also make money by buying call options.

Riddle me this:

1. In what direction does a bullish person think the market is headed?
2. How can a bullish person make money if her beliefs about the market’s direction come true?
3. Why was the bull chosen to represent a rising market and the people who believe it will continue?

Opposite of: Bear.
